The end of the day was quickly approaching, but there was still so much to squeeze into the last few hours of the evening. As if on cue, the lights lowered and before they knew it, the whole dance floor was bathed a soft light. For just a few moments, it was as if they were the only two people in the world, softly swaying to the song they had uniquely chosen for their first dance. The day that they had dreamed of for so long had finally arrived, and now, Mr. and Mrs. Downey danced along, already dreaming of the life they were about to begin together.

From the first moments of walking into Lydia and John’s venue, we knew that this Grand Rapids wedding would be a day filled with charm. From Lydia’s lace gloves to a ballroom-styled reception space, the classy ambiance of the day could not be overlooked. However, no detail of the day could compare to the bride and groom, who spent the day laughing and celebrating nonstop with friends and family. Even in moments of pause, Lydia and John could always be seen with each other, soaking in every minute of their beautiful wedding.

Lydia and John had decided to host their ceremony under the ornate stained glass windows and exquisite carvings of The Cathedral at St. Andrews, a stunning church just a few minutes away from the McKay where their guests were finally able to see Lydia in her beautiful wedding gown complete with cathedral length veil. The church provided the perfect locations for portraits before traveling back to the McKay, where the day ended in the iconic ballroom. All aspects of the McKay were used to the fullest throughout the day, from groomsmen enjoying a morning lounge in the penthouse suite to guests becoming totally enamored with the marble pillars in the grand ballroom.

Lydia and John, we can’t believe that less than a week ago, we were finally watching you two become husband and wife. From our time spent on your engagement shoot to ending out your wedding day by walking the streets of Grand Rapids at golden hour, each of our adventures with you were more special and enjoyable than the last. We echo the words that your friends and families blessed you with on the wedding day, “you two are going to do so many incredible things together.”
